Atwood Lake Boats

Atwood Lake Boats was originated by Gary K. Spahr in 1963 in Magnolia, Ohio as the Sailboat Center. The Sailboat Center built and sold smaller Class Sailboats such as Lightnings, Thistles and Sunfish sailboats. The business expanded and moved to the Dellroy area with the purchase of Barneys Marina located on the East end of Atwood Lake in 1969. Renaming the business the The Sail and Power Marina, Spahr broadened sales to include pontoon boats, family runabouts, boat rental, docking, service and a small restaurant. Atwood Lake Marina West located by the Atwood Lake Park was acquired by Spahr on August 1st, 1975. With the addition of the West Marina came more docking and boat lines including Catalina Cruising Sailboats and Houseboats.

This move helped Atwood Lake Marinas grow into one of the largest inland boating destinations in Ohio with over 700 docks. In addition to the Atwood Lake operations starting in 1973 Spahr obtained Leases with the Ohio Department of Natural Resources to operate State Marinas. These locations included West Branch Marina, St. Marys Marina, Deer Creek Marina and the Salt Fork Marinas. These marinas specialized in boat rental and marine accessories sales. In October 2000 Spahr sold Atwood Lake Boats, Inc. to long-time employees with over 25 years experience, Brian and Chris Valot. In 2006 they welcomed their oldest son, Michael, to the business as Service Manager. The Atwood Lake Boats staff continues a 45 year tradition providing Ohio boaters a convenient, stress free, boating experience.

Rossiter Boats

Thirty-five years ago, George Rossiter decided he didnt want to be a doctor like both his parents, or a fast-track business whiz like most of his friends. He wanted to build boats. And stubbornly, thats what he did. He built rowing boats not the little square-bottom thing that gets you from the dock to the yacht, but sleek, streamlined boats, through which a person could find both fitness and peace. He studied marine architecture, and built his boats for the ultimate in style and function, using fibreglass for his hulls and teak to embellish his decks. He built hydrodynamic, smooth-in-the water boats, and created innovations like adjustable seats and foot rests, that others should have thought of but never did.

And he sold his boats, one at a time. Gradually, people got to know the Rossiter boat, and to trust it, and often, even to love it. Not everybody knows it, of course, because there will never be a lot of Rossiter boats. They will always be made slowly and carefully, by hand, the farthest way imaginable from mass production. They are a professional fibreglass production boatshop and offer custom design and repairs on small watercraft and other items. Rossiter Boats is now truly a combination of Scott and Georges skills and values Yesterdays Quality and Tomorrows Ideas. Their boats have found homes as far away as Sweden, Kuwait and Oregon while many are close by on Georgian Bay. And everywhere they go people are coming to recognize the distinctive Rossiter look.

Harbercraft

Originating on the shores of the mighty Niagara River, the original founders, the Harber family, started manufacturing car top aluminum boats in 1959. With growth and sales demand from major department stores, a second manufacturing plant was built in the 70s near Vernon, B.C. As the market demand grew for the product, Harbercraft began to develop a marine-oriented dealer network across Canada and the Pacific Northwest. And by the mid-80s, the company was utilizing one of North America’s first robotic welders for small-components welding.

Fully-welded aluminum boats made their debut in 1996 as Harbercraft began utilizing computer numeric controlled (CNC) technology. Along with the development of the trademark-protected Pre-Flex hull technology, the company captured a brand new consumer base: those craving the most technologically advanced hull on the market. Advancements in engineering allowed Harbercraft to produce hulls with clean lines and proven performance characteristics matched with style, strength and durability. Demand called for it: a new manufacturing facility was built in 1998.

Marathon Boat

In the summer of 1944, after portaging a heavy wood and canvas canoe on a fishing trip in the Adirondack Mountains, William Hoffman, Vice President of Grumman Aircraft Engineering, had an idea: What about making a canoe from the same lightweight, stretch-formed aluminum that Grumman had used to become the single largest producer of carrier-based fighter planes during World War II? In 1945, the very first aluminum canoe, a 13-footer, was produced at the aircraft plant in Bethpage, Long Island. By the end of World War II Grumman was producing a line of 13′, 15′, 17′, 18′, 19′, and 20′ canoes. The plant relocated to Marathon, N.Y. in 1952.and in 1988, Grumman produced the largest aluminum boat in its history at Marathon. Designed for the Great Lakes, it measured 22′ 3″.

In 1990 the Grumman boat and canoe division was sold to O.M.C. of Illinois, who soon purchased the DuraNautic Boat Company’s tooling and assets and moved them to the Marathon Plant. In 1996, a group of former Grumman managers and investors formed the Marathon Boat Group to purchase the canoe and boat operation from O.M.C., and resumed production of Marathon canoes, identical in every respect to the legendary Grummans. In the summer of 2000, a licensing agreement was reached between Northrop Grumman and Marathon Boat Group. The name Grumman is once again back on the canoes where it always belonged.

Catamaran Cruisers

Catamaran Cruisers are constructed of fiberglass and composite materials in as many areas as possible for lighter more fuel efficient boats. Fuel consumption has been reduced by as much as 50% in documented cases. Reduction in the use of heavy wood in major areas resulted in a 30% lighter vessel. Catamaran Cruisers are also more resistant to decay with finished fiberglass inside and out. Fiberglass construction, aluminum floor framing and stainless steel fasteners make them the #1 choice for salt water use. Low maintenance on both boat and outboard motor make Catamaran Cruisers an enjoyable time on the water, not another chore to get done.

Their catamaran style handlaid fiberglass hulls are superior for stability and safety with individual bulkhead chambers every three feet. A hard chine aids with lift for a smoother, more efficient ride. The bottom of the hulls are flat (not rounded like pontoons) to leave a “footprint” in the water that makes maneuverability superior to other designs. Their company is very proud and thankful to be MADE IN THE USA. They manufacture 95% of our boats components in house at their facility in Columbia, TN. Cost control is key to our success over the years with little waste, limited middle men and self sufficiency.
