At ClackaCraft, rather than hyping up so called new materials or expensive add-ons to sell their boats, they instead make actual design improvements; such as our Tunnel Hull and tracking channels that improve the way the boat handles.

Mail Boats

Since 1895, the mail boats have been braving the rapids from Gold Beach on the Oregon Coast up the Rogue River. While mail delivery remains one of their functions, providing scenic trips on the river in their jet powered mail boats has become their main attraction. The Rogue River was selected as part of the federal “Wild & Scenic Rivers Act” of 1968. Rivers that “posess outstandingly remarkable scenic, recreational, geologic, fish and wildlife, historic, cultural or other similar values” were chosen for preservation. The Rogue certainly stands out and our tours maximize the scenery, recreation, and historic interest.

114 YEARS OF UNINTERRUPTED MAIL SERVICE TO THE UPRIVER AREA! “One of the oldest and most popular traditions on the Oregon Coast began in 1895 on the Rogue River. It was born humbly, arising out of the need of remote settlers and miners living in the vast wilderness of the Rogue River Canyon to communicate with the outside world, to send and receive letters and packages to and from distant relatives, to stay associated with friends far away. From this need to communicate, intensified by isolation, evolved a tenacious human enterprise, struggling to overcome forces of nature in a whitewater world. The history of that achievement is a chronicle of dedication and vision of heroism, punctuated by tragedy, accented with humor. It is a tradition that has endured and grown into one of the most unique and famous visitor attractions in the West.

Britannia Yacht Club

Britannia Yacht Club has its roots as an association of cottagers who spent their summers at Britannia-on-the-Bay. What was known as the Britannia Aquatic Club was formed in 1887 and met for the first nine years in an old saw mill on the water between Rowatt and Jamieson Streets. The name was changed to the Britannia Nautical Club and then to the Britannia Boat House Club, and was incorporated in 1895. The following year the members built a fine building for storing their canoes and rowboats. The club flourished and paddlers won many national championships. Frank Amyot won a gold medal for Canada at the 1936 Olympics in Berlin.

The members decided that they would like a larger, more elegant place to hold their dances and other social functions. A new clubhouse was built in 1907 on the end of the Ottawa Electric Railway pier at Britannia Park, but was unfortunately destroyed by fire in August 1918. The social affairs of the club were then moved back to the old clubhouse and remain in the same building to this day. At this point the club was known as the Britannia Boating Club. Gradually paddling declined and we became a sailing club with a few motorboats. Membership reached a peak of 2000 people just prior to the First World War, but dropped off dramatically after the war. With the advent of fiberglass boats, which require far less maintenance than wooden ones, the numbers rose once again about forty years ago.

E & R Boats

E & R Boats is a small family owned business founded in 1990, even though their boating roots date back to 1981. Their staffs combined experience in the marine industry totals over 50 years. They strive to provide quality pre-owned boats at affordable prices. This endeavor began when they themself found it difficult to locate a nice clean used boat for my personal use and developed into an ongoing enterprise. They have expanded their business to include a vast variety of Runabouts, Cuddy’s, Cruisers, Performance Boats, Pontoon Boats, and all types of Fishing Boats, including a new line, Clearwater Sport Fishing Boats.

The question they get the most is “where do you get your boats from”? their answer is simple. Unlike some pre-owned boat dealers, their relationship with local Franchise Dealers are strong and built from years of solid business practices. They never purchase vessels at auction because you have no knowledge of the origin of the vessel. E&R Boats owns their entire inventory and only purchase the best possible vessels from reputable Franchise Dealers. This business has been built on the sound principle of treating people as they would expect to be treated in making a significant purchase such as a boat. It is their sincere desire to provide their customer with the boat that fulfills their need and not simply sell a boat.
