Shallow Sport Boats

Shallow Sport Boats is a family owned and operated boat manufacturing business founded by Rex and Connie Hudson in 1983. Their family has been in the fiberglass boat manufacturing business for over 55 years with our own original designs by Rex Hudson and his father Willis Hudson. Willis also owned, designed and manufactured Falcon boats and owned and operated WW Marine in Houston, TX from 1952 through the mid eighties. Willis Hudson was a pioneer in his trade and was one of the very first persons to manufacture fiberglass boats anywhere in the world. In March of 2007 Rex and Connies son Wes and his wife Kyra purchased the company and have operated it since 2004.

Shallow Sport Boats designs are specifically engineered to run and fish in and around ultra skinny lakes and bays. They believe you will not find a smoother, skinnier, or dryer running boat on the market. With twelve different models from 15 to 27 feet to choose from, everyone can find their perfect rig. With over 58 years of experience in the fiberglass boat industry they possess a comprehensive knowledge of the market, and they take great pride in their reputation for excellent customer service and for having the highest resale value on the market. Many other boat builders have attempted to copy their design; however, what they lack is the quality, experience, and understanding that they have gained during their many years in the boat business.

PowerQuest Boat

During the summer of 1978, on beautiful Hess Lake in western Michigan, Todd Kamps and Kevin Hirdes became acquainted when they discovered that they both enjoyed water skiing. Almost immediately, a friendship developed that extended beyond their skis. Several years later, Todd was working for a marine yacht manufacturer in Grand Haven, Michigan. In his spare time he began designing, building and testing an 18′ fiberglass sport boat. Once Kevin caught wind of the project he lent a hand with the finishing touches. After countless hours of testing to see how well the boat performed, Todd and Kevin began talking about forming their own business. A company that would produce high performance sport boats.

From day one, August 16, 1983, Todd and Kevin kept their focus on what it would take to be successful: Do not compromise on quality; use the best raw materials available; build each boat as if it was for yourself; and surround yourself with quality people who share your vision. PowerQuest is dedicated to continuous improvement with the use of the latest high-tech materials and manufacturing processes. The product line continues to grow each year with new and evolving models. From our proven stepped hulls to their ergonomically configured helms, PowerQuest is constantly pursuing innovative ideas, designs and products. “Good” just won’t cut it.

Rayglass Boats

Rayglass Boats are New Zealand designers and manufacturers of a large range of award winning power boats designed for pleasure, fishing and work. Their boat building and boat show award winners are constructed of fibreglass and built in the Legend and Cruisemaster cabin cruiser styles as well as the Protector rigid inflatable pontoon (RIB) style of work boats and tenders. Rayglass Protector supply work boats and tenders for many of the America’s Cup teams, super yachts visiting Auckland and Coastguard. As official supplier to the Louis Vuitton Cup and America’s Cup organisations, Rayglass Boats patrol and carry the officials controlling the Cup racing.

With its strong construction and being just 6.5 metres from bow to stern, this centre console RIB makes an ideal tender for the smaller launch. It is easily manoeuvrable in heavy water traffic and just as easy to manage when towing on open roads, even with a smaller vehicle. This model has also been received favourably by Maritime Police Departments for rapid response intervention and has been embraced by the leisure boat market. One of the Rayglass range of Protector boats biggest sellers. Easily transportable on the open roads yet big enough to handle the extra personnel on the sea. With the extra metre in length and slightly wider beam than the 6.5m, the 7.5m centre console accommodates twin outboards, recommended 200-300hp for extra power when towing other craft or handling rougher seas.

Hatteras Yachts

The Hatteras legend began on the barrier islands of the North Carolina shore where the frigid waters of the Labrador Current encounter the tropical Gulf Stream. The outcome is Diamond Shoals home to some of the most turbulent and untamed waters in the Atlantic and some of the best sportfishing in the world. Here in 1959 at Cape Hatteras, where nor’easters can blow almost as fiercely as hurricanes, Willis Slane envisioned building a boat that could conquer the waters of Diamond Shoals and surmount the Hatteras weather. It would not be an ordinary boat no traditional wooden fishing boat could do this. This new boat would have to be rugged and robust to take the pounding of Hatteras waters.

But most importantly, it would have to be a great sportfishing boat big enough to handle a group of avid fishermen and comfortable enough for family back at the dock. Breaking with all tradition, Slane chose a new material fiberglass to build this noteworthy yacht that launched an industry. Hatteras produced its first sportfishing yacht on March 22, 1960, in the town of High Point, North Carolina. Christened the Knit Wits, she was a 41-foot twin cabin sportfisherman with a 14-foot beam and a pair of 275-hp Lincoln V-8s. The response was enthusiastic and the Hatteras legend was born. In a testament to the ruggedness that has become synonymous with Hatteras Yachts, the Knit Wits is still in service today after a fishing career that includes service in the Gulf of Mexico and Pias Bay, Panama.
