The Radon Boats history began back in the early 1960s when avid sportsman and construction worker Ron Radon Sr. moved his family from their native Washington State to Santa Barbara California. After learning to scuba dive, Ron Radon was convinced by his buddies to try commercial abalone diving. Ron started diving the local Santa Barbara waters in a 16′ sport fishing boat and soon found he could make a good living doing so. Soon Ron purchased a 20′ fiberglass production hull and modified it to better suit commercial use. After the first season, Ron realized the shortcomings of his boat and decided to design something better. Miller Custom Boats

Since 1952, for over half of a century, three generations of Millers at Miller Custom Boats have been in the custom boat building profession. The desire to build boats has been passed down from Dave Miller to his son Jim, and to Jims son,. Justin. Today, Jim and Justin create hand crafted, hand finished Boat Rods for people who want something they cant get anywhere else. In 1950, Dave built the first Miller Custom Boat in his garage in Culver City. The success of that glass over wood flatbottom prompted Dave to open Miller Custom Boats in Calabasas in 1952. Jim began working with his father in 1964 during the transition to fiberglass bottom halves with traditional wood decks.

With production as high as 3 to 5 boats per week during the 70’s and 80’s, Jim was convinced in 1989 that it was time for refreshing change. Hallett Boats

Boat industry legends arent made overnight…they are earned through years of experience, successful operation and a talent and a willingness to create original product that stands apart from all the rest. For more than four decades, thats exactly what Hallett Boats has been doing. Earning its reputation by building the finest boats for a discriminating and appreciative clientele. Making a name for itself in the custom boat marketplace that has no equal. When they decide to add a new boat to their line, they start from scratch, with a blank piece of paper and only a concept in their imagination. Eventually the concept is captured in a scale drawing, still months away from becoming a finished new boat. The manual labor phase begins when the initial wooden jig to form the skeleton of the plug is slowly assembled by hand.

Every step must be measured precisely. A deviation of a fraction of an inch can be disastrous when your goal is perfection. When the plugs are complete, a separate mold of each must be made. To accomplish that, the plugs are covered, layer by layer, with fiberglass mat and cloth and soaked with resin. Once cured, the molds are reinforced with a steel framework and separated from the plugs. If the process has gone according to plan, the molds will now be ready with only a minimum of detail work to begin pulling production hulls and decks. For the birth of a new Hallett, the entire procedure may take up to a year or more. But the wait is well worth it as evidenced by our many industry awards from Powerboat and Hot Boat Magazines for outstanding new models.

Goring Gap Boat Club

The Goring Gap Boat Club was founded in 1991 by a small group who enjoyed messing about on the river but who realised that most people who live in Goring and Streatley did not have access to one of the most beautiful reaches of the Thames. With this aim, some craft were acquired and a base was found at Thames Bank Nursing Home in Goring - the Boat Club was born. The principal aim of the Club was, and still is, to enable local people to enjoy this beautiful stretch of the river through the use of un-powered boats. They estimate that over the years well over 1500 local people have participated in the rowing and other water borne competitions, some of whom have gone on to compete at national level. The Goring Gap Boat Club is one of the largest recreational boating clubs in the Thames valley.

Membership is open to all, from youngsters gaining their first rowing experience to veterans with a life time on the river. Beginners are assured of a warm welcome, and a relaxed and safe introduction to the sport. No previous experience is required, and they provide tuition to all their new members. The clubs’ aims are simple - “…to make it possible for members to enjoy un-powered boating….”. Over the years it’s estimated that 1500 rowers have taken to the water under the guidance of GGBC, many of them competing in the ever popular Goring and Streatley Regatta. They have a large range of boats available from single sculls to eights, the majority of their rowing being in stable fours and quad boats - ideal for getting to grips with the basics before moving on to the finer shells.

Amble Boat Company

Amble Boat Company was established in 1995 and lies between Amble Marina and Warkworth Harbour. Located in “the friendliest port” on the picturesque Northumbrian coast, the yards history dates back to 1870, with a proud reputation for building the finest North East fishing cobles. With the decline in traditional boat building the yard adopted new materials and developed the Background construction of all welded Aluminium alloy vessels up to 22.0m in length. From the small yard in Amble, vessels have been built for Morocco, Malta, Bahrain, South Korea and Jordan. The largest vessel to date being, Hamzah 1. A 20.0m Oil Pollution control Vessel, now operating in Aqaba.

Our technical knowledge and practical experience encompass GRP, FRP, foam and Balsa sandwich construction in both polyester and epoxy resins. The yard has considerable experience in the application of epoxy coatings to the hull of vessels. Osmosis prevention or Osmosis treatment is regularly undertaken with the yard operating as an approved treatment and application centre for Blakes Paints, International Paints, SP Systems and West Resins. A polyester laminate may look watertight at first sight, but looks can
be deceiving. In the molecular laminate of the polyester there are enough crevices and holes through which moisture can diffuse in.

Old Au Sable Boat Company

The Old Au Sable Boat Company was established in 1998 by Bob Smock Jr. All river boats are built from the finest materials and are hand-crafted to the specific design of the customer. These unique boats are found only in Grayling, Michigan and have been used on the Au Sable and Manistee River Systems for the last one hundred and thirty years. The Au Sable Riverboat was originally built in the 1870’s. They were developed as a flat bottom craft that allowed the lumber companies to move tools and equipment up and down the river system. Without a keel, the craft was pushed by a pole from the stern, sat high on the water and was an excellent means of seeing the land from the “inside out” for timbering purposes.

The Old Au Sable Boat Company is an extension of Bob’s Fly and Hackle of Grayling, Michigan. This was a father son adventure with Bob Smock Sr. having become a local fly tying legend over the past 50 years and Bob Jr. a longtime fly fishing guide on the Au Sable and Manistee River System. They both share a special love with the Northern Michigan river systems, which is emulated through their fly tying and boat building. The Old Au Sable Boat Company’s present efforts are focused on Michigan rivers and streams. Yet a desire to expand geographical markets throughout parts of the United States, South America, New Zealand, Australia and Europe is of interest.
