Sierra Boat Co. Inc.

Sierra Boat Co. Inc. is located on the north shore of beautiful Lake Tahoe. Established in 1952, it started business when boats were only constructed of wood. Starting in 1954 Sierra Boat Co. took on the Century line of boats to compete with the wooden Chris Crafts sold elsewhere on the lake. Fulfilling the need for annual maintenance on the growing fleet of “woodies”, the company hired craftsmen who could repair and varnish these boats. As time went on the company’s reputation grew as the best place on the lake to take a boat for repair and maintenance. This attracted some of the best boats on the lake which included numerous Garwoods, Hackers, and Chris Crafts.Sierra Boat Co. Inc. is a full service marina specializing in the restoration and sales of antique and classic wooden boats on Lake Tahoe, such as: Chris Craft, Gar Wood, Century, Hacker, and Riva.

They use modern methods and materials wherever possible and constantly test new products and finishes. They specialize in fiberglass over wood bottoms. Unlike some inferior glassed bottoms, theirs employ state of the art biaxial cloths as used by modern boat builders. This results in a substantial lay up which in effect becomes a second bottom overlaying the original bottom planking. Some of their bottoms are over 30 years old and are still going strong.Age-old woodcraft skills of the Native American tribes provide the foundation for the development of the wood canoe. Faced with shortages of Native canoes, resourceful early Americans borrowed heavily from the birchbark canoe construction and design details to develop the first modern wood canoe prototypes.

Fountain Powerboats

Fountain Powerboats began in what was once a tobacco field in the North Carolina backwater region. Today, our 66-acre site includes a 250,000 square foot facility under roof and a modern marina. Their premier boat manufacturing facility is located near the coast for a good reason: North Carolina’s sounds, rivers and the Atlantic Ocean provide the perfect arena for us to test each and every boat we design and manufacture.Ironically, many boat manufacturers are completely landlocked and use test tanks. However, a Fountain powerboat never meets a test tank. Instead, each boat becomes well-acquainted with the Pamlico River. Every boat built in our ISO 9001:2000 state-of-the-art manufacturing facility is thoroughly water-tested in “actual-use” conditions prior to delivery.

Their coastal location guarantees ultimate quality because we have all the components for the ideal research and development laboratory. R&D is a critical process at Fountain, and their engineers and test drivers are on the water 365 days a year. Many boat builders rely solely on computers to test new designs, but Fountain engineers know that computers cannot always accurately reconstruct the unpredictable movement of water and waves. The best boats are born only by combining a computer’s intuition with hard core reality. The results are clear: superior technology which gives you the fastest, smoothest, safest, and best handling boats that money can buy. With the introduction of our Super Ventilated Positive Lift running surface there isn’t a V-bottom pleasure boat on the water that can keep pace with a Fountain. Competitors have tried to copy their designs, but failed because they lack the racing know-how and years of experience and dedication to R&D to make it work.
