Braidbar Boats
Based on the Macclesfield canal in the rolling Cheshire countryside at the edge of the Peak District, Braidbar Boats have been building narrowboats for the discerning boater at historic Lord Vernon’s Wharf for more than twenty years. They enjoy building just 8 luxury boats each year and they take great pride in our flexibility regarding steel work (thanks to the talents of Tim Tyler) and interior craftsmanship which is both traditional and timeless. They have now built more than 110 narrow boats at Braidbar, all unique in their own right, and more recently incorporating new technologies and innovations as they develop.
They have gathered an invaluable amount of knowledge over the years, particularly where practicality and economy of space are concerned. They sincerely encourage people to come and meet them, see how we work and discuss their ideas. Such a boat is a once in a lifetime acquisition and determining which team you want to build your boat is a very important part of the groundwork. Once the plans have been signed off by the customer and us, the construction of the hull can commence. The majority of their boats have been built on the Tim Tyler shell and continue to do so. Once the shell is complete it is transported to their boatyard where first the ballast is installed, portholes / windows fitted and the shell is then battered spray foamed.
